CEFRIEL |
|
| |
CEFRIEL is a Training and Research Centre
in Information Technology with the goal to exchange knowledge
and skills between Industry and Academia. Studies and research
activities have always been focused on the most important innovative
issues of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Since
its foundation, CEFRIEL has aimed to be a centre of excellence
and a high level reference point for information technology
transfer in the Milan area, providing continuous stimuli for
the actors involved, both public and private. CEFRIEL core
activity is represented by the Master’s Degree in Information
Technology. Skills acquired during the master course feed
research and consulting activities, which represent a further
opportunity to increase expertise of CEFRIEL researchers.
Moreover, they enrich the contents of the training courses
thanks to continuous interactions with Industry and IT Services
world. Well-motivated students take full advantage of this
wealth of knowledge and experience, which can be easily exploited
in the company where they will be employed.
Over
the years, CEFRIEL has maintained and even raised its initial
mission to be a trait d’union between local industries
and academia interests. The effective cooperation gives rise
to research activities on a pre-competitive basis.
CEFRIEL
was established in Milan in 1988 through an agreement among
scientific, public and industrial world. To enhance cooperation
and information transfer between academia and industry, a
full deal has been reached among Politecnico and Università
degli Studi di Milano, Regione Lombardia and some of the most
important TELCOs. In August 1997, CEFRIEL moved to Via Fucini
from Via Emanueli, where it was located since its foundation.
This new facility ensures a more comfortable research environment
and better working conditions. Since the beginning CEFRIEL
has trained more than 700 specialists, with different professional
knowledge and specialization, and about 200 researchers in
the IT field.

WIND
RIVER |
|
| |
Wind River is a public company with offices in every major industrialized
country and 1,500 employees, nearly half of them development
engineers. A far cry, you'll agree, from our founding in 1981
by two enthusiasts, Jerry Fiddler and David Wilner, in a one-car
garage. We incorporated two years after that and had our IPO
in 1993. Since then, we've just kept growing.
Wind
River's market share has increased as well, both through traditional
sales achievements and acquisition. As a result, Wind River
today stands as the clear leader in integrated, embedded software
solutions. Today, more than 750 support engineers offer service
and support available around the world, around the clock.
To ensure quality service, Wind River offers a call and defect
tracking system to monitor status of customer calls, from
incident to resolution. Wind River's web support offers customers
technical tips, patches, publications, downloads, and more,
available 24/7 at www.windriver.com. The Wind River Training
Center has both instructor - led and Web-based instruction
available.

XILINX |
|
| |
While the rest of the industry was moving
towards layoffs and shaking-off excessive inventory, Xilinx
was busy innovating, collaborating, and introducing new products
to market. Unlike many of our counterparts, Xilinx viewed the
downturn as an opportunity to focus on research and development,
streamline operations, and deliver new products that would change
the FPGA landscape.
This
last year, Xilinx decisively separated itself from our competition.
For the first time in his history, secured over 50% of the
PLD market share and are bigger than all other public PLD
companies combined. We avoided layoffs and were ranked by
Fortune magazine as the sixth best company to work for.
Through
the power of innovation and partnerships, Xilinx also took
the FPGA-based value chain to a new level. By teaming with
technology leaders in silicon fabrication, design automation,
system level tools, IP, and design services, Xilinx delivered
a complete value chain and strengthened its position as a
strategic partner for customers. Delivering this complete
value chain enables the fastest innovation while reducing
total development and system costs for customers. It also
reduces time to market and increases time in market for customer's
products.
In
March 2002, through partnering with industry leaders IBM,
WindRiver Systems, and Conexant, Xilinx delivered the Virtex-II
Pro™ programmable system solution. The solution is the
first of its kind and is the most flexible tool ever invented
for a designer. The Virtex-II Pro FPGA includes programmable
logic fabric with high-speed embedded PowerPC processors and
integrated 3.125 gigabit RocketIO™ serial transceivers
supported by leading design tools. Recent additions to the
family and lower price points have now made the Virtex-II
Pro solution the de-facto standard for all programmable logic
users. The Virtex-II Pro solution responds to the issues facing
design teams and their corporations. By delivering both high-performance
processing and high bandwidth connectivity on a single device,
many design challenges associated with integration, high-speed
interfacing, high performance processing, and new design methodologies
are effectively solved. The rapid rate of change in technology
and standards demands a solution that is completely flexible
and reduces inventory risks and NRE costs - the Virtex-II
Pro solution delivers.
Through
the years, Xilinx has evolved into a solutions company rather
than remaining just a chip company. Xilinx's job is to continue
to expand capabilities and partnerships, so to continue to
be a strategic partner for client companies.
